Flying and craft

FlyingAs an avid crafter I have always imagined hours of happy crafting while jetting around the world.

A few years ago it was quite impossible to take any sharp things of any description with you. It is a lot easier now and there are very few restrictions. Depending of course on the official you get. A pair of blunt nose scissors, that had been through 5 airports, were confiscated at the last one.

But it is now possible to travel with a sewing needle and thread cutter if nothing else.

Before each trip I plan a project, mark out all the pieces and cut them so that it is not necessary to take scissors. Everything gets packed into a small zip lock bag so that it can be examined easily and also so that I can get to it easily.

That is usually the state it is in when I land. For some reason it never makes it out of the hand luggage. I have tried, I really have. And I admire all the people that complete whole projects on a trip. On craft forums people are always discussing what they did and how much they got done. I seem to spend more time climbing under the seat to retrieve a fallen bit, or puncturing myself. The amount of turbulence is directly related to the sharpness of the needle or the intricacy of the work.

So to all the ladies out there that turn it into productive time, I take my hat off to you. I will be the one watching a movie.
